We are The Meccano Club of South Africa

THE premier Meccano club in Africa

We are based in Johannesburg with members from all over the world, we are dedicated to the Meccano Hobby and our members

About Us

Meccano Club South Africa

About us

The Meccano Club South Africa is an amalgamation of The Transvaal Meccano Guild, Johannesburg Meccano Hobbyists, and the Cape Town Meccano club.  The Transvaal Meccano Guild is the oldest, founded in 1972.  MCSA now has more than 100 members.

We hold regular meetings where we display models and works in progress and discuss Meccano.  The meetings are open to anyone with an interest in the hobby, new members are warmly welcomed.

A quarterly full-colour magazine is available at the meetings, it’s a great resource for inspiring modelling ideas and for sourcing those extra parts that always seem to be needed to complete a model!

Each year the club stages at least one two-day exhibition in Johannesburg, this year we held a display at Hobby-X 2024. Please visit our page for further updates as well as checking our upcoming events tab.

Annual membership is currently R225 with access to the digital edition of the Meccano Club Magazine, or R450 for those who would prefer the hard-copy version of the magazine, in full colour.

The same membership terms apply for our international members.

We have a broad membership profile, from students to world-famous surgeons.  Many of our members are knowledgeable in subjects such as Meccano steam engines, Meccano spare parts, new and old outfits and software related to Meccano, including VirtualMec (free-to-use cad software for Meccano), and ProDesktop, a high-end engineering design platform.

Many people around the world in the mechanical engineering professions and trades cut their teeth on Meccano when they were youngsters.  One of our objectives as a club is to foster the same interest amongst today’s youth, and Meccano is the ideal starting point for any young person with an interest in things mechanical.
